How to manage Google Business Profile as an entrepreneur in Spain
· 7 min
If you run a business in Spain, Google Business Profile — formerly Google My Business — is the listing that shows on Maps and in the local search pack. Managing it is not a task you finish on opening day. It is the weekly work that decides whether people find you when they are already ready to buy nearby.
An entrepreneur does not need a marketing department to start. They need correct details, real photos, answered reviews, and a look at calls and direction requests. Everything else rests on that.
Claim the profile before you decorate it
Sign in to Google Business Profile with the business Google account, not a personal email you cannot share later. Search for an existing listing. If it exists, claim it. If it does not, create it with the real name of the place, the address where you serve customers, and the phone someone actually answers.
Verification — by postcard, phone, video or email, depending on what Google asks — is what gives you control. Until the profile is verified, you cannot manage hours, photos or reviews. Do not stuff keywords into the name: “Maria’s salon best in Valencia” breaks the rules and Google can suspend the listing.
The details that decide whether you show up
- An exact primary category, plus one or two secondary ones. The primary category carries the most weight.
- Address, postcode and service area if you travel to customers and do not receive them on site.
- Real hours, including public holidays in Spain. Fake hours produce bad reviews.
- A phone number and a website or WhatsApp that someone answers the same day.
- A description of what you do, who it is for and which city, written the way you would tell a customer.
The name, address and phone number have to match the website, Instagram and the sign on the door. If every place says something different, Google hesitates and so does the customer.
Photos, services and posts
Upload photos of the outside, the inside, the team and finished work. Stock photos do not help someone choosing on a phone. Add services or products with a guide price when you can: people compare before they call.
Use posts for real news: a change of hours, this week’s offer, an opening. One post a month is already better than a silent profile. It does not need to be long. The listing needs to look alive.
Reviews are managed, not waited for
After a good service, ask for the review in the moment, with the short link to your profile. Do not trade discounts for five stars: that breaks Google’s rules. Reply to every review, including the bad ones, calmly and with a next step. A public reply is part of the sale for someone who does not know you yet.
An entrepreneur’s routine
- Every week: reply to reviews and questions, and check that the hours are still right.
- Every week: look at calls, direction requests and website clicks. That is the sale, not empty views.
- Every month: add new photos and one post.
- When something changes — a holiday, leave, phone or address — update it the same day.
- Once a quarter: review the primary category. If the business changed, the category should too.
If the profile is verified, complete and current, Maps can show you to people searching in your city. If it is half done, the entrepreneur next door gets the call. At Trevo the free trial starts with that audit: what is wrong on the profile and what to change first.
